Trekkings FAQ

All about our trekkings

Kilimanjaro offers several routes, each with its own characteristics. Popular options include the Marangu Route (less technical, with huts), Lemosho Route (scenic and gradual ascent), Machame Route (challenging and diverse), Rongai Route (remote and less crowded), and Shira Route (less traveled and starts at a higher elevation).

Most Kilimanjaro treks take between 5 to 9 days, depending on the route. Longer routes like Lemosho and Shira offer better acclimatization, increasing summit success rates.

Yes, a good level of physical fitness is essential. Kilimanjaro treks involve long days of hiking at high altitudes. Training, such as hiking, strength conditioning, and cardio, is recommended before your trip.

Altitude sickness occurs when your body struggles to adjust to lower oxygen levels at high elevations. Gradual ascents, like on the Lemosho or Rongai routes, help with acclimatization, and staying hydrated and taking regular rest stops can reduce the risk.

The best times to trek are during the dry seasons: from January to mid-March and from June to October. These periods offer more favorable weather conditions and clearer views.

Depending on the route, accommodation can vary. The Marangu Route has huts, while routes like Lemosho, Machame, and Rongai require camping in tents.

Essential items include proper hiking boots, layered clothing for varying weather conditions, a sleeping bag, sun protection, a headlamp, and a trekking pole. Pango Ventures provides expert packing tips during pre-flight meetings to ensure you’re fully prepared.

While non-technical, the ascent to Uhuru Peak is physically demanding due to steep sections and high altitude. The final push to the summit, often beginning around midnight, can be the most challenging part of the climb.
